- You have a poor quality needle; I use a medium to heavy ball point needle for everything. I hate having to replace the needle for every job I do (it stops the progress because I don’t want to do it). Buy good needles it’s less expensive and saves time in the long run.
- Don’t pull your fabric as you sew, let the machine do the work for you. If you pull fabric it bends and weakens the needle.
- Your needle is not installed correctly, make sure the flat side is where the flat side of the needle holder is and that it is pushed up all of the way.
- Your needle is not the right gauge, you cannot sew heavy fabrics or leather without a special needle, again go with ball point they don’t catch and pull the thread.
- Your hitting pins; even if you just clip them it will eventually bend and break the needle. I pin and remove them right before I come up on them to keep this from happening.
- Your presser foot is loose, there is a screw that you can hand tighten your foot to make sure it is secure, if it is loose the needle will hit the foot and bend and then break,
- Your needle plate is loose, this is where you insert the needle, make sure you screw it down tightly, a loose needle will hit the foot again, bend the eventually break.
